Hong Kong part 2: Wall of Bodies
Hong Kong is a big city with a huge
population, incredibly fast-paced and densely packed with bodies. Walking
anywhere was an exhausting experience.
Similar to many big cities with huge populations, people largely eschew
politeness in their day-to-day lives. People
in Hong Kong push past one another; step on each other’s feet; wedge themselves
in front of another person’s path; and generally get in the way of others at
inopportune moments without saying “sorry” or “excuse me”. It was a common
sight to see hundreds of pedestrians scrambling across the street, running over
and around, betwixt and between one another the moment the pedestrian signal turned
green, all to make it to the other side of the street just a little ahead of the
next person. This was almost as interesting to watch as anime.
